GHLL Primary Relationships (Sex) and Health Education - Curriculum Training

Led by GHLL primary teachers, this curriculum training session will cover the statutory requirements for all primary schools under the new guidance. Delegates will explore ways in which schools can ensure their R(S)HE curriculum meets the DfE requirements, whilst also being tailored to their setting and meeting the needs of their pupils. Whether a commercial package is used to deliver the R(S)HE curriculum, or freely available resources are used, this session will help to support schools in providing a spiral, responsive, progressive curriculum, bespoke to their setting.

“The school is unafraid to adapt the PSHE curriculum as needed, and address issues as they arise.” OFSTED, 2021, Outstanding PSHE outcome.

This training session will cover:
· Current statutory requirements for R(S)HE, including policies and curriculum content
· Guidance for auditing and reviewing provision in your school
· Suggestions for parent and pupil consultation
· Understanding of the principles of good R(S)HE teaching
· Suggestions for dealing with awkward questions, setting ground rules and managing parental concerns
· Signposting to quality-marked free resources to support your curriculum
The end of the session allows time to explore the FREE GHLL resources, developed to support the delivery of the statutory R(S)HE curriculum.

Delegates are welcome stay for the afternoon GHLL Primary Resources Overview, when the GHLL resources within the R(S)HE planning framework will be explored further. A separate booking is required if you also wish to attend the afternoon session.

GHLL Primary Resources Overview

During this workshop, GHLL lead teachers will be available to talk you through the various GHLL primary resources, all of which have been developed by practising teachers to support your pupils in their physical and emotional development. The Lead Teachers can advise on how you can build the resources into your school’s current PSHE curriculum, and share ways in which they have been implemented in other schools and the outcomes they have provided.

You will have the opportunity to discuss methods to measure the impact of your PSHE teaching, and ways in which the children’s learning and understanding can be recorded and assessed.

Some of the resources explored in this session will include:

    • Counting Sleep
    • Make Me a Superhero
    • Peer Mediation
    • Understanding Dementia
    • Keeping Myself Safe
    • Focused for Learning

The last part of the session allows time for delegates to view other GHLL resources freely available to schools and the chance to share ways in which they can be mapped into your school’s provision.

Delegates will require a separate booking if they wish to also attend the morning Primary Relationships (Sex) and Health Education Curriculum Training.

Managing the unmanageable – a toolkit to support dysregulated and impulsive behaviour -– AC Education

There has been a massive increase in children’s mental disorders and illness in recent years. (Referrals for autism assessments have increased by 50% in the last year and there has been a 51% increase in the number of ADHD prescriptions
since 2020.) This course will explore the roots of trauma and poor mental health to better understand the remedies that research suggest. It is well-evidenced that traumatic experiences in early childhood are replayed later in life in quite different environments – whenever the child or young person feels unsafe. Triggers can be anything from the word ‘No’ to a particular smell, sound or sight associated with a time when they thought they might not survive. Punishments are ineffective strategies for those whose brains have been impacted by toxic stress and there is general consensus that the most effective way of ‘managing the unmanageable’ is through a relationship between the child and an adult who is prepared to devote time and emotional energy in connecting with the child. We welcome you to join us on this training to learn more.
